President – Dr. James Ketchum is Director of Marine Conservation, lead scientist and co-founder of Pelagios Kakunjá, and founding member of MigraMar. He has served as Associate Researcher in the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste at La Paz, Baja California Sur, Postdoctoral Scholar in the Biotelemetry Laboratory – UC Davis, visiting Scientist in the Charles Darwin Research Station at the Galapagos Islands, and Project Coordinator in Pronatura Noroeste, La Paz. He also serves as Board President of Pelagios Kakunjá. He initiated the first studies on sharks at Cabo Pulmo National Park, the Revillagigedo Biosphere Reserve, and other areas in the Pacific coast of Mexico. He works closely with the Mexican Commission for Natural Protected Areas and other agencies to improve the effectiveness of marine reserves for the conservation of sharks. His primary research interests are the movement ecology of sharks and pelagic fish and marine reserve design based on top predator movement.
