Board Member – Kerstin Forsberg is founder and director of Planeta Océano, a non-profit organization empowering coastal communities in marine conservation. As a social entrepreneur and biologist with over 10 years in conservation, she has lead numerous environmental initiatives including forming the Marine Educator’s Network of Northern Peru, pioneering manta ray conservation in Peru, promoting community-based eco-tourism and researching shark and ray fisheries. Kerstin has served as a consultant for the inter-governmental, governmental and private sector. As a public speaker, she has presented in over 16 countries, including at venues such as the Royal Geographical Society and the World Economic Forum. Her work has been featured in National Geographic Magazine and Deutsche-Welle, among others. Kerstin is a Rolex Award for Enterprise Laureate, an Ashoka Fellow, a Kinship Conservation Fellow and a NEAq Marine Conservation Action Fund Fellow. She is a Key Partner Network member of UNESCO’s Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development. Recognized as a top “30 under 30 Social Entrepreneur” by Forbes and among “10 leading social entrepreneurs in Latin America” by Univisión, her efforts have received WWF’s International President’s Award, and Peru’s National Environmental Citizenship Award, among others. Kerstin is currently studying a Ph.D. in Marine Biology at Heriot-Watt University, UK.
