Besides research cruises to Galapagos, Cocos and Malpelo over the next couple of months, Migramar research will be featuring heavily at scientific conferences in various locations.

At the Joint Meeting of American Icthyologists and Herpetologists in Portland in July, the American Elasmobranch Society will feature a poster by Ketchum et al, and two talks by Hearn et al, one given by Alex Hearn (click for abstract) and one presented by Pete Klimley (click for abstract).
In the same week , the Galapagos Symposium, organized by the Charles Darwin Foundation, will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, and the 50th anniversary of the Foundation.
The symposium will offer a vision of past, present and future for the islands, and will feature a poster by Hearn et al (click to download poster) showing that hammerhead sharks and other pelagic species show preference for specific sites within islands, and a presentation by Ketchum et al (click for abstract) which discusses the use of shark spatial behaviour in the design of marine reserves, especially those in open waters.
Finally, on September 1st, Alex Hearn will be giving a presentation on shark research in the Galapagos Islands at the Aquarium of the Pacific, in Long Beach CA, as part of their Shark Summer campaign.
